What is Songkran?
Songkran is the traditional Thai New Year, which is celebrated every year from April 13 to 15. It is one of the most important and well-known festivals in Thailand.
Meaning and traditions:
• Waterproof: Songkran is particularly known for its water battles. People pour water on each other, which is considered a symbol of purification and a new beginning.
• Buddhist rituals: Many Thais visit temples to pray, give gifts to monks, and pour scented water over Buddha statues.
• Family time: It is a time for family reunions, honoring the elderly, and celebrating together.
Where is Songkran celebrated? There are celebrations all over Thailand, but they are particularly big in cities like Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Pattaya and Phuket.
Come by and enjoy an unforgettable day with Thai flair!
Together with ThaiSmileVienna Cultural Association and Muang Thai Street Food.
